MEADVILLE STOPS BRAYMER

The Meadville Eagles stopped the Braymer Bobcats winning streak at 13 Saturday night in the championship game of the Meadville Invitational Tournament.  In a closely contested game that saw the Bobcats trailing by 1 point with just a little over one minute left on the clock, a controversial technical foul allowed Meadville to stretch their lead to 6 points as no time elapsed.  Braymer was forced to foul in an attempt to close the gap and Meadville's Cody Smith was perfect at the line as the Eagles posted a 64-52 victory.

The game proved to be an excellent matchup between the #2 ranked Eagles and a streaking Bobcat team.  Meadville led early only to see the Braymer squad comeback to trail by 1 point at halftime.  The third quarter saw the Eagles lead swell to 8 points by the end of the frame, but a furious comeback by the Bobcats saw them close to within 1 at the time of the technical.

Meadville was led in scoring by senior guard Cody Smith with 21 points while Willie Howe had 16 for the victors.[Read More]

LADY BOBCATS DROP HEARTBREAKER IN OT

The Braymer Lady Bobcat basketball team traveled to Meadville Wednesday night to play against Linn County in the consolation half of the tournament bracket.

A 1st quarter offensive explosion keyed by a pair of three pointers by Molly Foley and scoring from all five starters saw the Ladycats jump out to an 18-5 lead after one frame.  Braymer continued to excel in the 2nd quarter with another 14 points including 8 from Foley including another pair of 3's.  The score at halftime was Braymer 32 - Linn Co. 16.

The higher seeded Lady Mustangs began to turn the game around in the 3rd quarter by outscoring the Lady Bobcats 11-8 and closing the score to 40-27, but it was the 4th quarter that proved to be Braymer's undoing as they were only able to put 2 points on the scoreboard compared to Linn County's 15.  With the score knotted at 42 apiece, both teams entered the overtime period looking to put the other away.

Linn County took their first lead of the night with 2:23 left in the overtime with a basket by senior Samantha Klinger.  Braymer managed to tie it up again when sophomore Jacie O'Dell scored with 50 seconds left.  Linn County took the lead seconds later, but junior Keely DeBolt tied it at 46 with 35 ticks left on the clock.  Linn Co. made the front end of a one-plus one free throw and the Lady Bobcats were forced to foul.  The Lady Mustangs hit two more free throws and the game ended with a final score of Linn Co. 49 - Braymer 46.
