History

The Caldwell County News publishes two weekly hometown newspapers: The Hamilton Advocate Edition and the Braymer Bee Edition. The firm L & L Publications, Inc. publishes the papers, as well as a bi-monthly lifestyle magazine called “Rural Living” and a shopper, The Pony Express.

Publishers Anne and Marshall Tezon are following a lengthy newspaper tradition in Caldwell County. The front page of the Hamilton Advocate lists the volume number as 137, representing 137 years of publishing. In the 1890s, Hamilton boasted ofthree newspapers. The Hamilton News opened in 1863 and was absorbed by the News-Graphic in 1877. The Hamiltonian was established in July of 1878 and the Farmer’s Advocate opened in 1890. All the Hamilton papers were consolidated in 1919 under the ownership of C. F. Ridings. Three generations of Ridingses published the paper that consolidated with two Kingston papers and with the
Breckenridge Bulletin before Anne Chadwick bought the operation in 1985. Chadwick purchased the Braymer Bee from Patty and Leroy Pryor in 1990. Upon Anne’s marriage to Marshall Tezon in 1995, changes were made in the newspaper operation. Rural Living was born as a real estate guide, then changed recently to a lifestyle magazine covering Northwest Missouri. The Hamilton and Braymer papers began having common Weekly Record and Classified pages under the
flag of The Caldwell County News while retaining the unique news and advertising of each of the two communities.
